Maria Simonsson
I am a self-taught artist based in Linköping, Sweden, working primarily in watercolor and acrylic. My artistic expression is deeply influenced by Impressionism, with a focus on landscapes—particularly trees, which recur as central motifs in my work. Through light, color, and brushwork, I aim to capture the mood of a moment and the quiet presence of nature, rather than offering a literal representation of the world.
While my artistic practice is self-directed, I hold an academic background in visual communication and art theory. This theoretical foundation informs both my creative process and my approach to visual interpretation, enriching my understanding of how images communicate and resonate with viewers.
My work is grounded in the figurative, with nature serving as both subject and source of inspiration. I seek to create paintings that invite reflection, evoke emotion, and offer a sense of stillness—connecting the viewer to the subtle, shifting beauty of the natural world.
